Our exclusive client is looking to hire a Clinical Scientist on a full-time, permanent basis. Based in their state-of-the-art facilities in Dublin, you’ll be joining the organization at a critical and exciting stage in their growth strategy. This company provides best-in-class genomic next generation sequencing services to the Biopharma and Clinical Research sectors worldwide. In addition, they partner with the medical community in providing clinical diagnostic testing services to optimise therapeutic intervention and patient outcomes. The Clinical Scientist will be involved with the generation and analysis of complex molecular genetic testing based on whole exome and whole genome sequencing and will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform and supervise a variety of laboratory workflows using both routine and specialised techniques and methods.

  • Lead ongoing validation, efficiency improvements and troubleshooting of laboratory workflows.

  • Conduct laboratory instrument operations while adhering to documented procedures to effectively manage and maintain all equipment.

  • Implement QC measures applicable for genotyping and next generation sequence applications in accordance with ISO 15189 and CAP/CLIA standards.

  • Identify deviations from QC methods and implement method improvements.

  • Develop and author documentation for new and current procedures within a quality management system (Q-pulse).

  • Participate in method development and implementation of new clinical genetic testing services, conduct hands-on training, and deliver internal and external presentations.

  • Achieve timely completion of projects, work with cross functional teams (internal and external teams) to execute plans and set deliverables.

  • Analyse clinical genomics data within defined turn-around times, including Whole Exome Sequencing, panels and Sanger sequencing.

  • Perform a comprehensive review of medical and scientific literature, leveraging genetic databases such as ClinVar, OMIM, and gnomAD to identify potential causative variants associated with the analysed patients' phenotypes.

  • Generate clinical reports of results following ACMG/AMP, ClinGen and ACGS guidelines for variant classification. Report variants according to HGVS nomenclature.

  • Discuss results with other Clinical Scientists and Clinical Laboratory Director during multidisciplinary team (MDTs) meetings.

  • Effectively communicate and manage enquiries from healthcare professionals.

  • Work alongside the bioinformatics team, to process and analyse samples, and test new approaches and tools

  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of LIMS, ensuring efficient and effective analysis while maintaining high standards of quality control.


Qualifications

  • Master and/or PhD degree in Genetics / Molecular Biology / Molecular Genetics / Biomedical Sciences or equivalent in Biological Sciences.

  • Relevant experience (>5 years) in Molecular Biology and/or Genetics laboratories working in a clinical accredited setting.

  • Experience working in cardiac or inherited cancer genetics desirable

  • Experience with NGS pipelines, variant interpretation and reporting in a clinical setting.

  • Familiarity with genomics concepts, knowledge of the genetic basis of human diseases, and experience in clinical genomics data analysis and interpretation (such as variant prioritization and annotation).

  • Demonstrated expertise in utilizing advanced bioinformatics tools, variant interpretation platforms and databases to analyse complex genomic data effectively.

  • Clear, concise report writing skills.

  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills; able to work methodically with great attention to detail.

  • Effective analytical, decision-making and problem-solving capability.

  • An open and positive attitude to working in a changing environment.

  • Ability to work independently.
